In 2012, United Nations General Assembly declared the ‘International Day of Charity’ on 5 September. The International Day of Charity was first celebrated on 5 September 2013.
International Day of Charity is celebrated on the Anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace.”. She died on 5 September 1997.
Advocacy Matters works with disabled people facing multiple issues often driven by poverty. Disabled people living in poverty are among the most stigmatised and marginalised peoples. Living in isolation, excluded from their communities, often from the education systems, from healthcare and other vital services. Sometimes, they’re even hidden away by their families.
