June is UK Pride Month

Posted on 7th June 2021

How will you celebrate this year?

Pride Month started in the US and has been adopted more widely across the world, but in reality, there are many Pride months across the globe. For instance, Sydney Mardi Gras, Australia’s biggest pride takes place in February (although they do have a Pride festival in June) and here in the UK, there isn’t such thing as one month for Pride.

UK PRIDE Month 2021 will see people around the country come together to celebrate and honour LGBTQ+ communities around the globe.

Pride marches are held up and down the country, particularly in big cities. They will normally be full day events with floats, live acts and celebrity appearances. Rainbow colours are always prominent, and it is almost impossible to come back from a Pride without a coating of glitter.

This year many Pride events are virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic, including Brighton Pride for the second year running.

Despite June being Pride Month, in the UK many Pride events are held in July, August and September. Check out the pride calendar for this year.
