Advocacy Matters, Volunteering Matters

Volunteering should matter to all of us, it enriches all our lives and contributes to an improved, empowered society. The involvement and commitment of volunteers is vital to the support we are able to offer to those using our services. They contribute enormously to our work and enable us to reach out and support many more people. Our volunteers come from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, contributing varied work and life experiences. We are able to provide our volunteers with invaluable training and experience, many of whom have entered paid employment.

At Advocacy Matters we have had the support of volunteers from the beginning back in 2002 and have stayed committed to its importance throughout ensuring that we have always had a designated staff member to support and develop our volunteering team. The history of Citizen Advocacy can be traced back to the early 1970’s in the UK with the focus on providing people with disabilities with a partnership to a member of their local community to be empowered, to have a voice and to be listened to. The importance of this support has never diminished and our commitment to volunteering with never falter.
