Birmingham Generic Non-Statutory Advocacy

We provide free and confidential Independent Advocacy to vulnerable adults aged 18 years and over who live in Birmingham and have an issue in their life for which they require independent support.

We have a large team of trained and vetted Volunteer Independent Advocates who are able to support individuals on a 1:1 basis who are vulnerable due to disability, older age or ill health to address an issue that they have in their lives. Volunteer Advocates can help with situations that are compromising an individual’s health and wellbeing. We can support you when you feel no-one is listening to you, when you feel you have been treated unfairly, when you need support to access services and to speak up about your needs and your situation.

Independent advocacy can help you to access information, be involved in decisions about your own life, explore choices and options, defend and promote your rights and interests and support you to speak up about issues that are important to you. We can support you to challenge decisions if you feel they have been made unfairly and to complain about situations that you are not happy with in your life. We can signpost you to other services and support you to ensure you have the necessary and relevant support in your life. We will also support you to develop self advocacy skills and confidence to speak up about your own life situation.
