Welcome to our (temporary) website. We are currently constructing a new and fresher website. The new website will have more functionality and contain more features and news about what's happening at Advocacy Matters!
About Advocacy Matters
Advocacy Matters was registered as a charity on 19 April 2002. This was a direct response to the governments’ White Paper Valuing People 2001. The charity aimed to provide independent advocacy to disabled adults in North and West Birmingham who had a learning or physical disability. At that time there were few voluntary organisations based in North Birmingham and there was a distinct shortage of independent advocacy available. We also recruit, vet and train Volunteer Advocates from the community.
Volunteers are important to Advocacy Matters. The charity has a growing team of Volunteer Advocates who have been vetted and trained and are supported to deliver issue based advocacy.
As a user led organisation we have Steering Groups comprising of people from the community and Disabled people who feed ideas to the Board of Trustees, this helps us to ensure we are user led in all our work.
